We’ve been using Google Drive to write our feature screenplay, and it’s bloody great. Here’s why we like it:
It Is Free and Platform Agnostic
If you have a browser and a Google account, you’re good to go!
It’s Great For Collaboration
There are three of us working on this thing. Drive allows us to all work on the same document at the same time wherever we are in the world, and you can see other people’s edits happen in real time. It also has a great commenting system and version control built in.
But It’s Not Perfect
You have to spend a bit of time fiddling with the page formatting to get something that looks like the standard script layout, and even then it’s not quite right. So this is probably not something you’re going to want to use if you’re submitting your work to the Academy; but if you want to quickly write with others and don’t want to spend anything, Drive is your guy.
And if you’re just not into Google, Dropbox can give you some of the same functionality, but it won’t let you all edit the same things at the same time.
